Historically one of the most prolific whisky-producing regions in Scotland, before a decline in the early 20 th century, the Lowlands is known for the lighter, softer single malts that it produces. Extending from the Scottish Borders to the southern edge of the Highlands, the Lowlands is home to a number of famous distilleries, including Auchentoshan, Glenkinchie, Springbank, and Inverleven. Lowland whiskies tend to present floral profiles with notes of sweetness and spice including ginger, toffee, and cinnamon, and broadly offer a smoother, more delicate experience than their northern counterparts which is often the result of multiple distillations.
