Nestled on Scotland’s north east coast between Aberdeen and Inverness, the Speyside region is known for the natural beauty of its hills, rivers, and glens, and is home to more than half of Scotland’s whisky distilleries. The number of distilleries in the region reflects the diversity of whiskies that Speyside produces: from the traditionally robust full-bodied expressions aged in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, to much lighter, sweeter, and subtler varieties. Classic Speyside expressions offer smokiness with notes of honey, vanilla, caramel, and fruit, while the region’s most famous distilleries include Macallan, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, and Aberlour.
