Where is Speyside?
Speyside is an area in the north east of Scotland between Aberdeen and Inverness with the River Spewy intertwining between all the northern Scottish villages. Speyside is the home of over half of Scotland distilleries. The oldest distillery belonging to Strathisla and the most popular, Glenfiddich. This area of Scotland attracts a lot of tourism not only for the beautiful highland scenery but also the vast number of famous whisky distilleries. The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival will take place this year from the 1st-6th May to celebrate the great whisky distilleries of Speyside.
Speyside whiskies are known to be much sweeter and lighter than other malt whiskys produced in Scotland. With the surround environment of rivers and glens, this directly impacts the taste of Speyside whiskies. With a light smokiness and fruitiness to notes of caramel and smooth textures its no wonder whiskies born in Speyside are some of the world’s most popular.
